Question: I am currently using another company for hosting and domain registration. If possible I would like to use your company just for hosting and leave the domain name with the other company? How long would it take? What would I need to do for change over? Would I have no website running in the time of change over?
Answer: Yes it is possible to have your domain registration with another company and your web hosting with us.
When you sign up to order hosting from us on our website you can choose the option that you already own your domain name. This way we will create your hosting account for your domain name. We will then send you a setup email and it will contain the details of the new nameservers for your domain name, as well as information to upload your website to us before the domain has changed over. When you are ready for your domain to start pointing to your hosting account with us you need to login to the other company and update the nameservers for your domain to the new nameserver details we gave you.
After you have done this your domain will start pointing to your web hosting account with us. Usually the changeover takes only a few hours. During this time your domain will still point to the initial hosting company until the nameserver update goes through so you are not left without a website running during the changeover.
